Why Michio Kaku Rocks!

While I am not the most science minded person (aka, I suck at math, therefore I am never going to be a scientist), I love Michio Kaku! I am almost done reading his book Physics of the Impossible. This book explores the ideas of science fiction such as: phasers, Death Stars, teleportation and etc. This is book explains that while some of these things may not be possible currently, it doesn’t mean that they can’t happen in the future or not.

This book is great for any sci-fi fan or Fringe fan as well. Michio explains the science behind the principles of each item or thing in such a way that you can understand it, but you don’t feel as though you are being talked down at. He is also humorous, which makes the book all the more enjoyable! What I liked the most about Michio’s book, is that he is not dry. While Stephen Hawking’s A Brief History of the Universe is interesting, I found it very dry, unlike Michio.

So make sure to pick up this great science/sci-fi read for yourself or your sci-fi fan!

Top Gear US: Epic, or Epic Fail?

Top Gear (2002 TV series)
Image via Wikipedia

I am a huge Top Gear fan, that is the BBC (and original) version of the show. So I admit that I was a little reticent to watch Top Gear US. However, I watched it and it’s ok at best. I will start by saying that it is not original at all. In fact when they showed a preview of the upcoming season I noticed the House on the Car challenge, which is a total rip off of the Motorhomes episode from Top Gear. Also watching the celebrities go through the track in left-hand drive is awkward at best when you are used to watching the track run with right hand drive.

I will also state that what I love most about Top Gear is Richard Hammond, James May and Jeremy Clarkson. They are hilarious and they play off each other well. One of my favorite episodes is The Perfect Car for a 17 Year Old, it makes me laugh every time I watch James in the Jetta listening to crappy house music at full blast. I am not sure about the US cast yet. I am not sure if they don’t have the same chemistry because it’s a new show, or if the chemistry simply isn’t there. So I am hoping that the chemistry gets better with time. But at least they have a Stig, so that is a new Stig mystery, two Stigs is a little mind-blowing! Could he be from the Stig Farm?

The verdict is undecided at this point, but only time will tell if us Americans can get a already great BBC show right, because Lord knows we rip off enough of their shows as it is! So, do you like it or not, let me know!

Covert Affairs aka Alias Rip Off?

The last two weeks, I have caught both episodes of Covert Affairs, USA Networks newest show. As I have watched both episodes, I have noticed a startling resemblance to the older (but better written by J.J. Abrams) show Alias. Hot young post collegiate takes job working for CIA in ridiculously skimpy and provocative clothing. At least Alias had a better plot line then “the boyfriend is a bad guy and let’s use the main character as bait to catch him”. Lame. This show is maybe a 2 on a scale of 5. And while we are at it, I have yet to see a person play a blind person worse than Christopher Gorham! He ovedoes it not by an inch, but by a mile! He is quite possibly the worst person playing a blind man ever! And considering how many movies and tv shows I have watched, that is pretty bad!

Let me know what you think and if you like it, please tell me why (nicely please!), maybe you can change my mind, we’ll see. As for now, I will watch it when I am having a hard time sleeping, to help put me to sleep that is!
