TV Show Versions: US or BBC, which is better?

So over the years, we (Americans) have ripped off a good chunk of BBC shows. While some of them are good, some should not have been remade for the US. Here are my thoughts on some of the shows.

Being Human: I will start right off and say that this one is a toss up. While I like the BBC version, I have to say that I am liking the US version just a little bit more. I think the characters are played better in the US version. But time will tell what the verdict is on this one, as it’s so new!

Life on Mars: BBC wins this one. The acting and the characters were better served in the BBC version. I think the fact that the BBC version had more seasons than the US version also answers this question.

American Idol (Pop Idol BBC): Thank you BBC for inspiring this insipid show! Big thanks on that one! Hate them both!

Dancing with the Stars (Strictly Come Dancing BBC): Again, thanks BBC! Hate these too!

Top Gear: My opinion has been clearly stated about this one in a few blogs posts, but here is goes again. Love the BBC version, hate the US version!

So, I’m starting to wonder whether Americans have any creativity left? We seem to just be ripping off the Brits, but then we make fun of them as a country. Other than Strictly Come Dancing and Pop Idol, their versions of the shows (which were first, by the way) seem to be better overall. Why don’t we just air their shows instead of wasting the money to redo them? Any thoughts???

Okay, totally not kidding about this and it is legitimate! Enter to win a free 2 year lease on the BMW X3! Not bad, huh? Being that I love German engineering, I knew that I had to try for this one! Plus on the enter screen, you get to customize what you like! Hello!!! This is amazing!

I would have to say that if I won this car, I would have a heyday in it! If you would like more info, on the BMW x3 make sure to check out the Top Gear review of it below!

Top Gear US, I am not a fan!!!

Okay, I have now watched plenty of episodes of Top Gear US. I posted earlier ab0ut Top Gear US. While the show is an interesting rip-off the great BBC show of the same name, I think it’s not too bad, except….

I am not really enjoying the hosts. They are boring and trying too hard and I just have to say Rutledge is an idiot! So my question is this, who would you like to see host TOP Gear US and why!

Top Gear US: Epic, or Epic Fail?

I am a huge Top Gear fan, that is the BBC (and original) version of the show. So I admit that I was a little reticent to watch Top Gear US. However, I watched it and it’s ok at best. I will start by saying that it is not original at all. In fact when they showed a preview of the upcoming season I noticed the House on the Car challenge, which is a total rip off of the Motorhomes episode from Top Gear. Also watching the celebrities go through the track in left-hand drive is awkward at best when you are used to watching the track run with right hand drive.

I will also state that what I love most about Top Gear is Richard Hammond, James May and Jeremy Clarkson. They are hilarious and they play off each other well. One of my favorite episodes is The Perfect Car for a 17 Year Old, it makes me laugh every time I watch James in the Jetta listening to crappy house music at full blast. I am not sure about the US cast yet. I am not sure if they don’t have the same chemistry because it’s a new show, or if the chemistry simply isn’t there. So I am hoping that the chemistry gets better with time. But at least they have a Stig, so that is a new Stig mystery, two Stigs is a little mind-blowing! Could he be from the Stig Farm?

The verdict is undecided at this point, but only time will tell if us Americans can get a already great BBC show right, because Lord knows we rip off enough of their shows as it is! So, do you like it or not, let me know!
