I had a chance to interview Sergio Cariello, the artist and illustrator of The Action Bible. We talked about
Sophia (my 6 year old) with her Action Bible
many of the comics that he has worked on such as, Batman, Daredevil, and Wonder Woman (a personal favorite).
Sergio also talked about how The Action Bible, formerly The Picture Bible, was important to him as a child growing up in Brazil and also when he became a Christian. Sergio had a copy of The Picture Bible as a child and it meant a lot to him, so being asked to work on The Action Bible was a dream come true for him. Sergio shared how David C. Cook Publishing had asked for a “tryout” of Sergio’s work and how Sergio had it finished in one day instead of using the whole week deadline that was given. We also spoke about being a Christian and working in the comic book industry, how sometimes you have to be a bit cautious on the projects that you work on, much like in all other jobs as well. Sergio’s biggest point is to keep the main thing, the main thing in your life, which for him & me, is Jesus. Jesus is the ultimate action hero and how we need to remember that as well.

While I was in the Christian book store yesterday, I ran across this amazing version of the bible: The Action Bible! The artwork was amazing and the story was fun to read! My six year old loves it and she finally understands the bible stories now! My 36 year old hubby wants a copy too! I feel that this bible is amazing in so many different ways: first for the visual person, it’s awesome to have pictures, secondly, it’s great for someone who is learning to read and lastly, what a great way to reach us comic book nerds!
I am currently working on scheduling a podcast with Sergio Cariello, the illustrator of The Action Bible. Sergio has worked for both DC Comics and Marvel as an illustrator (Batman and Daredevil to name a couple). I am really excited to talk to a fellow comic nerd and Christian! There is a great new DVD Series by the Big Idea crew:What’s in the Bible. These are great DVDs that teach your kids wonderful things about the Bible and the Books in them. Make sure to check them out! Sophia my five year old loves them and just soaks them up! If your kids love these DVDs, then also be sure to check out JellyTelly! These great characters teach more about the Bible, there are fun games and etc!
I recently started to read Mom Overboardby Robin Chaddock. I have tried reading this book before, but it just wasn’t the right timing for me to really take in and process the information. Well, now it is. This book gives moms 12 lifesavers for moms who’d rather swim than sink.
