Why should I get the 9 Disc Star Wars Blu-Ray Set vs. the Regular Set?

Heads up to all my Star Wars nerds! I just received my awesome 9 disc Star Wars Epic on Blu-Ray today and I am loving it! But why, do you ask, should I buy the 9 disc versus just the 6 disc set?

Oh, my fellow Star Warsian, the 6 disc set is not the set you are looking for. (okay, you can laugh now) The extra 3 disc packed full of special features is amazing! I learned more about the Star Wars Universe than I thought possible in the first two special features discs, which show the special features of the movies. The 3rd special features disc is the crown jewel, however. This disc is worth the extra money alone! The documentaries are really interesting and informative, but my all time favorite has to me the 1:37 minutes Star Wars Spoofs reel. This starts out with Weird Al’s Star Wars song, then off to VW Super Bowl Commercial , to the 3 year old explaining Star Wars, to Bill Murray’s Star Wars Lounge Song, plus a million others! You will laugh so hard for so long that you might want to wear a Depends.

The special features are what really sells the 9-disc set. Being that I am special features junkie, I was really glad that I bought this set. I will let you know that so far the cheapest place to pick it up is on Amazon. Walmart and Best Buy (at least our local ones) only sell  Episodes 1-3 and Episodes 4-6 as separate sets. Plus, if you are rocking Amazon Prime member, shipping is free!

So if you have the new Star Wars on Blu-Ray, enjoy it! If you don’t, well, pick one up!

My Geek Voice featured on the Wandering Havoc game store site!

Wandering Havoc

I recently had the pleasure of writing a blog post for my local (and awesome) game store, Wandering Havoc. I had written a post earlier about finding the perfect game store and I am blessed to call Wandering Havoc my home.

I wrote the post about gaming with your kids, which I think is important. What I focused most on this post was how to game with your kids and not pull your hair out. Making sure that you know your kids limits and also that your kids understand the game store rules is very important, especially if you want to be asked back!

We are lucky that our fellow gamers at Wandering Havoc embrace us as well as our kids. In fact, when I don’t have the kids with me, everyone asks where they are! I love that feeling. I hope that you enjoy this post and get to know me as a gamer parent more and get to know the Wandering Havoc crew as well.

If you want to know more about some of the games from a

(new person) perspective, make sure to check out this link. Chris is hilarious as he explores the ins and outs of a lot of the popular table top games.

Dungeons & Dragons Online Character Gift Giveaway!

Dungeons & Dragons Logo

On Saturday at PAX, I headed over to the Dungeons & Dragons booth and had WAY too much fun! I had a talk with some of the D&D guys and they just launched an awesome Facebook D&D game: Heroes of Neverwinter. I had a chance to look and play with it at PAX and it looks awesome! This game follows the footsteps of the Neverwinter campaign. (Which you should play if you aren’t already! Our local game store is Wandering Havoc, if you are in the Marysville/Arlington area) The only bummer is that the beta is now closed. So I am hopeful that it will open up again really soon. I think they might have just gotten flooded from all the folks at PAX Prime.

I also looked at Dungeons and Dragons Online as well. I have played this awesome and free MMO for a couple of years now and I love it! It’s a great and cheaper way to get my D&D fix! I acquired an awesome pirate hat code for your D&D online character, if you want it, you just have to tell me what race and class of character you play, and why you like it! Don’t forget to include your email, or I can’t send you the code!

Finding the perfect gaming store = Wandering Havoc!

Dungeons & Dragons Logo

I am pretty new to the whole Dungeons & Dragons scene. I played my first game of Dungeons and Dragons a year ago at the Penny Arcade Expo. It was fun and loved it. We played another time after that, but life got in the way.

Fast forward to now. For the last few weekends, we have been gaming fiends. (When I say we, I mean my hubby, myself and my kiddos.) We are lucky enough to have one of the best gaming stores around, Wandering Havoc. What I love most about this game store is the people.

When you walk into Wandering Havoc, it’s friendly. I have been to other gaming stores where the people barely look at you let alone talk to you. In doing this, they fail to realize that they are losing customers this way. Who wants to go into a game store where nobody talks to you! Another big thing is how they treat my kiddos. My daughters Sophia & Sarah are 6 and 2. Sophia loves to play D&D, but as she is a bit younger, she has a lot of questions and needs some help. Everyone at Wandering Havoc is awesome to my kids. It’s not just the people who own and work there, it’s the gamers too! They were doing a demo of a cool World War II airplane rpg game (ok, guys and gals at Wandering Havoc, feel free to comment what the name was please!) and Sophia had a ton of questions about it. Everyone playing took the time to explain it to her and she thought it was the coolest game ever.

Wandering Havoc takes the time to teach and encourage the players, especially the noobs like me! If fact, I’m going to learn to DM (Dungeon Master) for Dungeons and Dragons on Wednesday. (I’m so excited!) They treat everyone with respect (unless we’re playing Munchkin, then all bets are off! He, he, he!) and we all have fun. It’s a place where everyone knows your name (insert Cheers reference here…). They are also involved in the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) helping out in the Dungeons & Dragons area with the games and tournaments.

So for all you fellow gamers, if you haven’t found your dream game store and are in the Snohomish County area, make sure to check out Wandering Havoc Games. You will see me there too!

Borders liquidates!

Borders at the Westfield San Francisco Centre,...

Well, it’s official Borders bookstores across the nations are liquidating. They decided to do this instead of officially filing for bankruptcy. Could it be that people really don’t like Borders? Or could it be that the marketing of their eReader, The Kobo just plain sucked! It’s pretty bad that I didn’t even know that they had an eReader when I do go in there on occasion.

The thing that I can’t stand about Borders is the filing of their non-fiction section. They defy the dewey decimal system and you can’t find what you are looking for. Plus the  times that I have needed help from their staff have been horrible. One would assume that you know about books if you work in a bookstore. Or at least that should be the case. While I have a Barnes and Noble Nook, the Kindle is very nice too. I prefer the Nook Color mostly because it has an awesome night reading function that doesn’t keep my husband up all night when I can’t sleep! My parents have the Kindle and they love it. I think when it comes down to it, it’s just a matter of personal preference for your eReader. The Kobo eReader has next to no functions available. Basically it’s a cheap version of the Kindle, don’t believe me read for yourself.

So it’s not totally surprising that Borders is going out of business. They aren’t great at marketing their products or shelving their non-fiction books. None the less, Borders is on their way for a liquidation, so if you want to pick up some books on the cheap, make sure to stop at Borders!

Derezzed Music Video – Daft Punk Rocks!!!

Okay, so I’m on a bit of TRON kick today. It happens! THis has to be one of my favorite songs to run to, work out to, and just listen to. What I love about this song, especially when I’m running (yes, nerds run) is that it one of those songs that the beat just drives me (or you). So, as I have the day off of running, Enjoy this awesome song on me!

Tron Legacy in 8-Bit!

As a TRON fan, I thought this was pretty awesome! I hope that you guys like it too!
