Blog to watch: Flick Filosopher

MaryAnn Johnson

Thanks to the wonderful world of Google +, I found this great blog by MaryAnn Johnson called Flick Filosopher, in which MaryAnn does movie reviews and commentary for new movies in theater, DVD and etc.

What I like about MaryAnn versus other movie review sites is that she present the information with humor, but also I love her icons on each of the photos of the movie to be reviewed. (Such as skip it, rent it or see it.) I like this because let’s face it, I don’t always have time to read everything I see on the internet, but I like that I can see the icon (especially if it says Skip It) and read the review later.

So far, I have yet to disagree with MaryAnn’s reviews, so that’s pretty nice too! I hate it when you find a review site that feels differently than you about almost every movie out there! What I also enjoy about her blog is the amount of content! If there is a movie to be seen or reviewed, she’s done it!

So make sure to check out Flick Filopsopher and have some fun before you go to the movies!

Batman 3 Trailer: Finally!!!

Got a chance last week to watch the Batman 3 trailer and I have to tell you, it looks pretty good! I am excited for the final chapter in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight series. I have to admit, I am still a little skeptical about Anne Hathaway, but hopefully she will surprise me with a good performance. Tom Hardy’s Bane looks downright decent and I am really glad to see him in this role.

All in all, from what I can see from the trailers, this looks like a “I want to see this on IMAX 3D” kind of movie (if it’s released that way). The graphics look really good, the costumes amazing and well, all around it looks good. Too bad we have to wait so long for it! Grrr!

Thor or Why I hope the Avenger movie will kick ass!

Thor as depicted in The Super Hero Squad Show.

Thor. Oh, you Norse God of Lightening, why couldn’t you use Mjulnar to smash the lousy script that they gave you?

I watch Thor and all in all, it’s ok, but lacking. Watching this movie was like watching the Incredible Hulk with no Hulk Smash. It was sad. Thor is one of the few (and I mean few) characters that can actually take on and beat the Hulk, but yet they have him mooning over Natalie Portman and losing his poor hammer. Boo, frickin hoo! You are a NORSE GOD, get over it!

The acting was ok, but the script could have been better.  At least they didn’t go all sing-songy with him, like he is on Super Hero Squad, so I’m somewhat happy. But really, I was expecting more from the movie and especially more from Kenneth Branagh! Kenny-baby, you were trained at the Royal Shakespearean Theatre and this is all you got for me? Really??? The two measly fights in the whole movie were quick and lame. I want to see more damage and destruction, this is THOR, not whiney Spider-man. When you think Thor, you think damage and carnage, or at least that is what is portrayed in the comics. Did Kenny even read them, because I felt he missed the essence of Thor completely.

And for the record, I have a REALLY hard time buying Natalie Portman as an astro-physicist, unless all her training Naboo got her a Ph.D. (But really when would she have the time for that when she’s fight the Trade Federation, marrying Anakin and etc. Trust me, my husband is getting a Ph.D. and it takes a lot of time!)

But I digress, I think that the casting, other than Ms. Portman was great. Tom Hiddleston as Loki was amazing. He looked and really embodied the part as well. At first I wasn’t sure about Sir Anthony Hopkins, but I was quite impressed with his perfromance.

So all in all, it’s ok, but if you are a Thor fan, prepare to be disappointed. Let’s hope that the Avengers movie brings more damage!

The Avengers photos are out!

Avengers (vol. 2) #11 (Sept. 1997), showing th...

While pursuing the web, I stumbled across this little tidbit! It’s photos of the Avengers working on the newest movie, which I am psyched for!!!

I will be honest, I am not sure how the Hulk is going to be with Mark Ruffalo. I think that the fact that the actor playing the Hulk has switched 3 times in the last year is not a good sign. Is there a Hulk casting curse that we are unaware of? (E True Hollywood story to follow?)

But all in all, I am excited for this one!

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil = AWESOME!

I just finished watching Dale & Tucker vs. Evil and I laughed my butt of the whole time! The premise is that Dale & Tucker bought a fixer-upper vacation home in the deep woods. They head out that way and are mistaken by a bunch of college kids for backwoods killers. After one of the college kids gets hurt, Dale & Tucker help her only to be mistaken further as axe-wielding killers. After a bunch of bad luck instances for Dale & Tucker, the college kids (assuming that Dale & Tucker are killers) try to get their friend back and end up dying in these bad luck random accidents. At this point Dale & Tucker want to help these college kids from what they assume is a bunch of death wishes.

First off I loved the casting on this one! Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine fit the mistaken hillybillies perfectly! They both have the facial expressions and body language that could be misconstrued as evil. Katrina Bowden plays the funny damsel in distress who’s having a good time with Tucker and Dale. Jesse Moss plays Chad, the college kids ring leader to perfection. He’s the college frat boy type that you love to hate.

Secondly, this movie was just funny! With all the mistaken identity and mishaps that happen along the way, you can’t help but laugh and feel sorry for Tucker & Dale! This was one of the better gory/dark comedies that I have watched and so far it’s the only one that I have liked and laughed about. This movie turns all of the backwoods hillbilly killer movies and turns them on their heads. So if you like Alan Tudyk or gory comedies, make sure to check this one out. It releases on November 29th, 2011. Make sure to see it!

Nerd-Girl that you need to watch: AggresiveComix

I have been watching AggressiveComix for a short while now and I love her reviews! She is witty, no-holds-barred honest and I love that! What’s also kick butt is that she is an actual NERD, not some poser wanna-be who just wants to make it big on YouTube! (I’m sure she wants to make it big, but she’s not a sell out (insert Olivia Munn jokes here)!)

Jenny is by far one of the better reviewers of nerdstuff and I highly encourage you to watch her, in fact, watch this!

Why should I get the 9 Disc Star Wars Blu-Ray Set vs. the Regular Set?

Heads up to all my Star Wars nerds! I just received my awesome 9 disc Star Wars Epic on Blu-Ray today and I am loving it! But why, do you ask, should I buy the 9 disc versus just the 6 disc set?

Oh, my fellow Star Warsian, the 6 disc set is not the set you are looking for. (okay, you can laugh now) The extra 3 disc packed full of special features is amazing! I learned more about the Star Wars Universe than I thought possible in the first two special features discs, which show the special features of the movies. The 3rd special features disc is the crown jewel, however. This disc is worth the extra money alone! The documentaries are really interesting and informative, but my all time favorite has to me the 1:37 minutes Star Wars Spoofs reel. This starts out with Weird Al’s Star Wars song, then off to VW Super Bowl Commercial , to the 3 year old explaining Star Wars, to Bill Murray’s Star Wars Lounge Song, plus a million others! You will laugh so hard for so long that you might want to wear a Depends.

The special features are what really sells the 9-disc set. Being that I am special features junkie, I was really glad that I bought this set. I will let you know that so far the cheapest place to pick it up is on Amazon. Walmart and Best Buy (at least our local ones) only sell  Episodes 1-3 and Episodes 4-6 as separate sets. Plus, if you are rocking Amazon Prime member, shipping is free!

So if you have the new Star Wars on Blu-Ray, enjoy it! If you don’t, well, pick one up!

Batman 3 cast: Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman

I’m not sure what to think about this picture of Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman. Mostly because I don’t see Catwoman in this costume at all. No ears, just black leather. At this point I think that Halle Berry’s costume for Catwoman was better than this. Maybe this year at Comicon I will just wear black leather and a cool pair of shades and call myself Catwoman too! I think that this is the most disappointing costume for DC that I have ever seen. If this costume is any indication of her ability to play Catwoman, I am not impressed. I personally would not have cast her in this role, she’s not the Catwoman type, she’s more Selina Kyle than Catwoman and you need someone who can play both. So are you as un-excited about this costume and casting choice as I am? Let me know!

David Tennant as Peter Vincent in the new Fright Night!

David Tennant

Image via Wikipedia

I loved Fright Night growing up. It was campy, a little scary and fun. I have to admit when I heard that Dreamworks Studios were in the process of a remake, I was a little skeptical. However, after watching the trailers and hearing that David Tennant was attached to the movie, my skepticism decreased. For those who know me, or have read my blog for a while, know that I am a HUGE David Tennant fan.

I finally got to see a glimpse of David in action as Peter Vincent, and now so can you! Enjoy!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2: spoiler alert!

Coat of arms of Hogwarts, the fictional school...

Image via Wikipedia

I recently saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 and I have to tell you, I loved it! I was really happy that there were only 30 minutes leading up to the big battle scenes and about an hour and a half of battle royal! I really felt that it lived up to what was written in the book and was just what I pictured in my head as I read it.

I loved Professor McGonagal’s battle royale scenes, she had some serious game left in her! I also liked how they showed the epilogue of the story as well. It put a really nice (and pleasant) end to the series.

I would suggest however that younger kids not see this movie. It’s pretty intense and there are some scenes that may scare your kids. I would not take my 6 year old to see this, as it would give her nightmares. This movie is definitely for the 13 and up crowd.

So, grab a babysitter and see it with your significant other!
