Batman 3 cast: Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman

I’m not sure what to think about this picture of Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman. Mostly because I don’t see Catwoman in this costume at all. No ears, just black leather. At this point I think that Halle Berry’s costume for Catwoman was better than this. Maybe this year at Comicon I will just wear black leather and a cool pair of shades and call myself Catwoman too! I think that this is the most disappointing costume for DC that I have ever seen. If this costume is any indication of her ability to play Catwoman, I am not impressed. I personally would not have cast her in this role, she’s not the Catwoman type, she’s more Selina Kyle than Catwoman and you need someone who can play both. So are you as un-excited about this costume and casting choice as I am? Let me know!

The Best Mascara for Cosplay = no more fake eyelashes!

Maybelline's The Falsies Mascara

I normally don’t give much credence to the makeup companies advertising for mascara. I have weeny lashes and none of the volumizing, plumping, etc kinds have worked to make my lashes look halfway decent. Until yesterday… I picked up a new mascara to replenish my makeup box (with a minimal amount in it) and I picked up Maybelline’s The Falsies Volum’ Express. I gave it a try and I have to tell you, it actually works! I have big awesome eyelashes now! Finally a product that matches what the advertisers are spinning!

Now I thought this would be awesome for cosplay because you can now eliminate wearing those pain in the butt false eyelashes! If you are like me, you hate them, I can’t seem to keep the stupid things on! But now I don’t have to! Just try the mascara and tell me what you think!

Eureka’s It Couple, or Are They??? Jo & Zane

Eureka (TV series)

Image via Wikipedia

I am a huge Eureka fan! So this last half season really threw me for a loop, especially when it came to my favorite Eureka couple, Jo & Zane.

Season 3 ended with Zane asking Jo to marry him and she responded that she needed to think about it. Of course later that day, Jo, Carter, Allison, Henry & Fargo were sent back to 1947. When they came back, Jo said yes to Zane. Only problem was that Zane didn’t know what she was talking about. They changed the time line so now Zane & Jo never dated. Well, slowly Zane is discovering what he was to Jo and they are slowly starting back up as a couple. Let’s just hope it stays that way!

Eddie Vedder + Ukulele = Awesome!

I love Eddie Vedder. I have listened to him starting with Temple of the Dog, then Pearl Jam and lastly his independant stuff. I loved his soundtrack work on Into the Wild soundtrack, so it was no surprise that I would love his newest album, Ukulele Songs.

There is something soothing about Eddie’s voice. It has captivated me since I was younger. My high school years were spent listening to Pearl Jam’s Ten cd so much that I wore it out and had to buy a new copy. I was a grunge girl and I loved it. Growing up in Washington State, especially near Evergreen State College , it was pretty much expected that you would love grunge and well, I did.

Part of what I love about Eddie Vedder is the times that I had listening to him. I remember going out to the Skokomish River Valley with friends on early release days and heading up to the trails, listening to Pearl Jam’s Ten or the Red Hot Chili Peppers Blood Sugar Sex Magic in my friend’s car. I hear “Under the Bridge” without thinking about the Steel Bridge in the Skok Valley.

So, maybe by listening to Eddie, I am transported to my younger days, but I still love it. Now to Ukulele Songs. Most people think of the ukulele as in Hawaii or Jack Johnson. But Eddie brings a whole new sound to it. It’s not your typically ukulele music, this has more of a grunge/rock and roll feel to it that makes it sound like a whole new genre. He jams on the ukulele as if it were a standar 6 string, which most people won’t do. So, if you are an Eddie fan like me, make sure to check out Ukulele Songs. If you still aren’t sure, then watch this video and decide for yourself!

This is for my friend, Sarah, who was with during these awesome memories!

Derezzed Music Video – Daft Punk Rocks!!!

Okay, so I’m on a bit of TRON kick today. It happens! THis has to be one of my favorite songs to run to, work out to, and just listen to. What I love about this song, especially when I’m running (yes, nerds run) is that it one of those songs that the beat just drives me (or you). So, as I have the day off of running, Enjoy this awesome song on me!

Krisy goes live on 24/7 Moms & and the wheels are churning!

I had the great opportunity to do a live webcast show with Trisha at 24/7 Moms last night! We talked about eating mostly vegetables and juicing as well. It was so much fun! So, what does this have to do with geeky things?

Well, I am planning some great things for the future and I really hope that you are going to get excited about some of them! But first things first. What would you like to see more of from this blog? More comics, more gaming, more movies or more??? Because while I write about what I like about the nerdcore culture, you my readers also influence that too. So please what would you like to see more of? I want to make this better for you too!

Thor is a god!

Chris Hemsworth as Thor as depicted in the upc...

Image via Wikipedia

I got a chance to see Marvel’s Thor and I have to tell you it was everything that I hoped for! Chris Hemsworth as Thor was amazing! He really did a great job of playing the Norse god and keeping it plausible. So many actors get so wrapped up in playing the character, that they fail to play the character. Chris nailed the Norse god perfectly. Cocky, bold and brash.

Now, I will say that I am not the Thor reader in the family, that’s my husband, but I enjoyed the movie even though I only know a bit of the history. I think that this movie is good for people who love Thor comics and for people who want to see a good Marvel hero movie.

This is not really a kid movie, however, so please parents, take your kids with caution. My husband and I always preview the super hero movies first then let our kids watch them with us.

The storyline did not fall flat and kept me interested, which lately hasn’t happened with the newly released movies. I admit that I was a bit nervous that Kenneth Branagh was directed, as he is part of the Royal Shakespearian Actors, I was afraid that he would play it a little to tragic Shakespearean style for my liking. (I love Shakespeare, but not as a action film) Overall, it was a good movie and I hope that you check it out this weekend!

If you want to know more about Thor: Tales of Asgard (Blu-ray/DVD Combo).

Call to Arms: Support our Troops

We Are the Marines

Image via Wikipedia

This is a call to arms for civilians. I will start out by saying, I have been the person that I am going to write about and I know better. I was a military wife and my husband got out of the military after 8 years of service to pursue college and a career. After he got out, I forgot what the life was like and to my military wife friends, I am truly sorry, this has been on my heart and I have felt the need to say it.

We support the troops. This is very easy to say, to put a yellow ribbon on our cars and put on our Facebook profiles, but what are we really doing to support our troops? Now, first off, let me note that I say support the troops, I am not suggesting to those who oppose the war that they forget that, I am talking about the troops. The men and women who put their lives on the line to make sure that we have the freedom to live, to celebrate our faith, and etc. What are we doing about those left back at home? Are we taking care of the wives and husbands and children? Are we talking the talk, but not walking the walk? This shouldn’t happen.

I am a former Navy/Marine and Army wife (I’ve only been married once, he was a Navy corpsman, joined an elite group of Marines and then during college joined the Army Reserves). My story is this, I went from a Greenpeace card carrying member and someone who peacefully protested injustices to me now. Deep down, I still wish that there were ways to peaceable handle things, however I know that sometimes force is what it takes. I support the troops, if I like what the war or whatever is going on, that doesn’t matter, I support the TROOPS.

I looked the other day and saw that if my husband went back into the military life, we would loose have of what he makes now as a civilian. Is this right? Why are military families having to qualify for WIC (women, infant and children assistance) to help pay for their groceries? It hardly seems fair.

So I challenge you to go out of your way and your comfort zone to do something nice for a soldier or for their family! Send a care package, have your children draw them a picture or anything. Something nice to thank the soldier for putting their lives on the line for us everyday. For more information, please check out the USO .

Going back in time…

Challah

Image via Wikipedia

Lately, I have been on a kick about going back in time to doing things the old way. We no longer have a microwave, which I have to say, I really don’t miss. I’m baking bread from scratch (no bread machine use) and I’ve been doing more knitting projects.

I think this might be due to the fact that our family has been watching a lot of the Love Comes Softly movie series,  Little House on the Prairie and the Anne of Green Gables series as well. While some people might call this place in time archaic, I find it comforting. I love how simple and uncluttered with stuff their lives were. Not to say that they didn’t have their problems, but they were simpler back then. Now, it’s a lot more complicated!

What I love most about this time period is that you reaped what you sowed. I love knowing that the bread on my table is the bread I made with my own hands, a machine didn’t make it for me. Or the sweater that Sophia wears is made by my time and effort. I find comfort in this, that this is not only from my work, but that my daughters can see this as well and benefit. One day they will teach their daughters, just as my mom, Grandma and Nana taught me.

In the world that can seem crazy, busy and cluttered, there is still time to make bread, knit a sweater and provide with manual labor for my family.
