To Eat Meat, or Not To Eat Meat: That is the Question

So, I have to admit, I waiver back and forth about eating meat. I’m not the biggest fan of it, infact I really only eat hamburger, turkey, chicken and seafood. But frankly aside from seafood, I could live without eating meat. I will not touch steak and am not the biggest fan of most meat. I have to be honest, when I see a chicken or cow and know that they are going to be eaten, I want to barf, and this is from someone who raised cows! I am not one of those people, however, that will look at someone eating meat and say “You’re eating that?!”, to each their own. And you probably won’t see me sporting a “Meat is Murder” shirt anytime soon either, but it does make me pause. I think part of this is because I don’t think that meat really tastes all that great, especially when you have great alternatives like Morning Star and Boca Burgers that taste just as yummy, if not yummier! I am one of the billions of people that don’t really stop to consider where our food comes from, but once I do, I feel sick. I do have to preface by saying that I do own a hand gun and I don’t care if someone goes hunting, just don’t ask me to eat it!

I recently picked up the book The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone (yep, that’s right Cher from Clueless) and I have to admit, it made me really think. While this book is a vegan diet book, and I am not willing to go vegan (yet), I do admire that she is a vegan and she has some really yummy looking recipes in her book. And let’s face it, look at the picture of her! She looks amazing, so obviously this is doing something good for her! I am going to try a few of her recipes and see how it goes. As for my family, I have a feeling that I will endure a bit (okay, a lot) of teasing, but for me, it’s worth it!

Zack Snyder’s newest: Sucker Punch

Okay, after 300 and The Watchmen, I am a huge Zack Snyder fan! That’s why when I stumbled (ok, actually Brad did) across this, I knew I just had to share! Stylistically, it’s gorgeous and from what I can see of the trailer, the plot line seems like it will stand up in court too! I am a huge fan of the Watchmen graphic novel and 300′s graphic novel as well and I thought that Zack did an amazing job of sticking as close to the graphic novel as possible. Now, if he would just do a Y: The Last Man movie, I would be in heaven!

The New Household Toy aka a New Apple Product!

Image representing iPad as depicted in CrunchBase

We bought the Apple iPad yesterday and love it! My husband has to travel next week and desperately wanted one to take on his trip. After saving our pennies, we bought it! It is really cool! When Apple first announced the iPad, I was pretty convinced that it was just a bigger iPod Touch. In a way, it is, but at the same time, it has cooler functions. Being able to watch movies off of our Netflix instant queue is pretty nice, plus the iPad games are awesome. I just wish that more of the iPod App developers will transfer over their apps to an iPad format, as they are just small on the bigger screen. While you can enlarge them, some of them get too pixelated to really see them.

Overall, I will admit, I have iPad envy, but I am cool with the iPod Touch! However, if you have the money (I would suggest using cash, not credit), then pick one up today!

Add some Pep to you Housework Routine!

While browsing the internet, I recently ran across this great little jem! 101 Housework Songs! It’s six discs of greatness that varies from many different generations and decades! One minute you will find Katy Perry, the next Frank Sinatra! This music set has been awesome for not only housework, but long car rides, having company over and just chilling out!

Let’s face it, doing the dishes is a lot more fun when you can belt out “Respect” or “9 to 5″! This CD set is fun and keeps you moving, even when you really don’t want to! It was the best CD purchase I have made in a long time and I highly suggest that you snag it too!

Covert Affairs aka Alias Rip Off?

The last two weeks, I have caught both episodes of Covert Affairs, USA Networks newest show. As I have watched both episodes, I have noticed a startling resemblance to the older (but better written by J.J. Abrams) show Alias. Hot young post collegiate takes job working for CIA in ridiculously skimpy and provocative clothing. At least Alias had a better plot line then “the boyfriend is a bad guy and let’s use the main character as bait to catch him”. Lame. This show is maybe a 2 on a scale of 5. And while we are at it, I have yet to see a person play a blind person worse than Christopher Gorham! He ovedoes it not by an inch, but by a mile! He is quite possibly the worst person playing a blind man ever! And considering how many movies and tv shows I have watched, that is pretty bad!

Let me know what you think and if you like it, please tell me why (nicely please!), maybe you can change my mind, we’ll see. As for now, I will watch it when I am having a hard time sleeping, to help put me to sleep that is!

As a Mom

As my 15 year high school reunion draws close (we all skipped the 10 year one), I notice that I have been reflecting on my life a lot more now. While I am not the same person that I used to be, even though I look the same, I am proud to say that I am stronger and tougher (mentally) than I used to be. But there in the back of my mind (and I’m sure every mom’s mind), you wonder what your life would be like if you chose a different path. I wonder sometimes what my life would be like without kids. Would I be working the corporate ladder? Maybe staying with the art and comic book industry and touring around like my friend Jim. I think it is perfectly normal to wonder the “what if’s” of life, as long as we don’t dwell on them. For me all it takes is a goofy song or joke from Sophia or a baby giggle from Sarah to make me realize how truly blessed I am.

Comfy Homemade Socks!

My Comfy Homemade Socks!

I decided that even though it was the middle of July, I needed to get started on my sock making! Because let’s face it, Autumn is just around the corner! So I bought so great variegated yarn and used one of my favorite patterns and went to town! Sophia liked them so much that she wants a matching pair! These socks are cute and comfy too! I’m not much of a shoe wearer around the house, but I love warm comfy socks, so this was perfect! So, now off to knit Sophia a pair and if I have leftover yarn, then Sarah gets some too!

If you are interested in a pair of these great socks, contact me!

Day one of Week one of Ramp It Up!

So, I started the Slim in 6 series by Beachbody. I didn’t have the first disc, which was Start It Up, so I went ahead for the Ramp It Up series. I did the first workout on Saturday, but realized that I wanted the 6 days to be a Monday thru Saturday routine, not Saturday thru Friday. So I reastarted Day 1, not like it really matter as the routine is the same for the first 3 weeks. But still. I am tired and sore. I can barely feel my poor arms to type, but I know that in the end this will be a really good thing! I am not going to post the Before pics until 3 weeks time. Then I will post them along with my half way progress.

Deadliest Catch’s Missing Dad, Keith

So, I have been watching this season of the Deadliest Catch and I noticed that Jake Anderson’s dad was missing. Well, what got me even further intriged is that his truck was found missing in Darrington, which is the neighboring town. I was bothered by this because how did I not know about this when this was happening in January? I felt horrible, was I a bad person for not knowing?

Then I happened to do a web search for Jake’s dad and found out that I was not an uncaring person. I had seen the photos and flyers everywhere here in Arlington, Marysville, Burlington and all the other places in the area that we go. What is sad is that this was a man who was a former high school counselor and seemed to be a good man. (Not that anyone should go missing, but you get my point)

I feel for the family and I sincerely hope that with Jake being on the Deadliest Catch that more people will step up and join the search or come forward. To the Anderson family: my heart goes out to you! If you would like to help out, you can donate money for the family and the search efforts.
