Movies
This week’s DVD Movie releases are a bit on the weak side, unless you are a die hard Nicholas Sparks fan. This week, Dear John, based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks comes to DVD. While this movie did okay in the box office, it fell pretty flat for me. It was your typical run of the mill Sparks style story: Boy meets girl, they fall in love, someone dies, the couple either stays together, but most likely not. I do admit that I really thought that good ol Nick really touched on the sense of duty of a military man. I think one of my favorite lines of this movie has to be at a dinner scene when John is talking to Savannah’s (his love interest) father about 9/11 (which had just taken place in the movie). Savannah’s father had stated that the military will probably have to ask people to stay in the military to help out. John replies that a good soldier doesn’t need to be asked. Overall, the movie wasn’t bad, but it was a typical Nicholas Sparks plot, so it is really predicable.
This movie is rated PG-13.
TV Series
Now, to the DVD TV Season release! This I am actually excited for: Season Two of True Blood! True Blood is based off the novels of Charlaine Harris‘s Sookie Stackhouse novels. This series takes place in the present, however vampires are now living among us and living in the mainstream thanks to the invention of True Blood a synthetic blood substitute. Now, disclaimer time! This is NOT a kid friendly tv show! This is the typical sex, blood, and rock and roll that we used to expect from vampires before Twilight emerged and killed it. Charlaine’s characters are rich in substance and interesting to watch. Each season is a mystery to be solved and the answers to the questions are not what you would expect! If you would prefer not to buy the DVD and have your house cluttered with stuff, the Season Two release on iTunes is available as a season pass starting on today as well.
This TV Series is rated M for Mature.
So, you decide, Kleenex box or a bottle of True Blood
