After months of waiting, it is now official: Chris Evans will be playing Steve Rogers aka Captain America in the upcoming 2011 release. As a die hard Cap fan, I’m not sure how I feel about this. As Chris already filled the scorching shoes of Johnny Storm, I am guessing that Marvel Studios is now done with the Fantastic Four franchise, however with as many Marvel crossovers and etc, this is a dumb move on Marvel’s part.

Chris, while funny and smart doesn’t have the All American good guy vibe that Steve Rogers exudes. Honestly, would you want someone who once had a role where he wore a whip cream bikini and a banana stuck in his butt playing Cap? I don’t. Chris’s acting style is better suited for the smart, but sarcastic playboy types. Case in point, Johnny Storm. I think that people who are not comic book saavy will have a hard time with this one as well, as they know him as the Human Torch. I think people might have a hard time differentiating who he is supposed to be in this upcoming movie. Chris Evans, while funny and a good actor, is a typecast actor and the Captain America role does not fit into his set of typecast.
