Why couples need to be Fireproofed

Fireproof (film)

I’m taking a minute to talk about something other than my typical geeky stuff. As part of my new focus to help mom enhance their lives, I feel that this is worth mentioning. I just finished watching “Fireproof” written and directed by Alex Kendrick, who brought us “Facing the Giants“. Now, if you’ve seen Facing the Giants and thought it was a good story with some big cheese factor, don’t discount Fireproof! Fireproof is the Kendrick’s sophomore effort on the big screen and in my opnion, much more realistic to normal life, with no cheese factor thrown in.

This movie is about a couple who is on the brink of divorce. The main character Caleb(played by veteran actor Kirk Cameron) is a fire captain who has given everything to everyone else but his wife. His wife, who is not perfect either, won’t give him any respect.

After an all out fight, Caleb meets with his dad, who mails him a book called The Love Dare. In which he has forty days to complete forty tasks. As for if is saves his marriage or not, watch the movie!

I will tell you that I have been going through The Love Dare book. Why would someone who is studying to be a marriage and couples counselor take part in a book like this, you ask? Well, for two reasons: 1. Every marriage needs work, no matter how good things are going and 2. How can I as a counselor recommend this book to my potential clients if I haven’t done the work myself?

So, grab your hubby or wife, get a babysitter (if needed) and curl up and watch it together. Also, don’t forget to grab The Love Dare book!

  • Hi Krisy! Welcome to MBC!

  • We saw this movie on Monday, and LOVED it! We pre-ordered the DVD from Amazon.com, and got it the day before it came out to the public. Did you know that it was the highest grossing independent film in 2008? Awesome!

  • Angie,

I didn’t know that Fireproof was the highest grossing Indy movie! That is awesome! Everyone that I have recommended this movie, whether they were Christian or not, loved it and have bought copies. Even one of my friends that are in a lesbian couple bought it.

It just goes to show that it doesn’t matter what you believe, everyone believes that marriage (or partnership) matters!

P.S. when I have the baby, I am SO getting photo greetings from you!!! They are awesome!
